Understanding CBD product labels
As more and more CBD products hit the market, it’s important to understand what separates good from great. Because CBD products are so new to so many, it is easy to get confused. We created some basics on understanding how to read labels, from full spectrum, tinctures and terpene blends to help you make a better purchasing experience.
A full-spectrum CBD product contains multiple cannabis plant extracts, including essential oils, terpenes, and other cannabinoids, such as cannabinol. Full-spectrum CBD products may also contain up to 0.3% of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid in the cannabis plant that produces the ‘high’ feeling in people
Broad-spectrum CBD is one of the three main forms of cannabidiol (CBD). The others are full-spectrum CBD and CBD isolate. Broad-spectrum CBD contains a range of naturally occurring compounds from the cannabis plant, but typically no tetrahydrocannabinol
CBD tincture is an alcohol-based extract. High-proof alcohol is used as a solvent to extract the natural compounds of the cannabis plant, and it’s also used in the finished product. … To mask the bitterness, tinctures are often mixed with additives like sweeteners, flavoring, or vegetable glycerin
Terpenes are the natural compounds in the flower or bud of the cannabis plant. Terpenoids, meanwhile, are terpenes that have been chemically altered. CBD oil that is full- or broad-spectrum – meaning it contains other components of the cannabis plant besides CBD – will contain terpenoids
